《Michael Row The Boat Ashore》是一首好听又易学的英文歌，由The Highwaymen合唱团推出并在1961年登上全美排行榜冠军宝座，这首歌其实也是一首黑人灵魂歌曲。美国早期在黑奴时代，有许多黑奴在工作时，嘴里会哼唱着一些歌曲以纾解工作的烦闷，另外也会借着歌唱以保持工作的节奏和相互打气，尤其是在有数人工作的团队里，通常由一名工头带着领唱，其余就跟着呼和，而领唱者又可随意地变换歌词，其他人还是依样照着原来的旋律呼和，《Michael Row The Boat Ashore》是这样的一首歌。
